In Neuburg, Albulean finished with -7, a success that comes after Manasseros, Pavan and Skalis: this is the first time on the second European circuit

Francesco Laporta won the German challenge with a score of 281 (69 70 70 72, -7), setting an Italian golf record. It is, in fact, the first time that the Azzurri have achieved five victories in the same Challenge Tour season. Laporta’s success follows Matteo Manasero (Copenhagen Challenge and Italian Open Challenge), Andrea Pavan (D+D Real Czech Challenge) and Lorenzo Scalise (Kaskada Golf Challenge).

Race

At the Wittelsbacher Golfclub (par 72), in Neuburg an der Donau in Germany, Laporta, 32, from Castellana Grotte, signed his third title on the circuit after the two in 2019 (Hainan Open and Challenge Tour Grand Final) in which he also won the Award of Merit. With a speed of 72 (par) in the last round, he left the Czech Jiri Zoska, the German Dominic Voss and the Englishmen Gary Boyd and Ashley Chesters, in second place with a score of 282 (-6). Apulian started the winning race from ninth, going through sixth and then third. On the last lap, after a bogey, he recovered with two birdies and then closed the first part of the course with a bogey for a part of 36 (par). At Laporta’s 15th hole, Boyd and Chesters found themselves on top at -7, then the spurt on the 16th when the Englishman bogeyed, leaving him free to go. With the success achieved by Laporta, which received a check of 40,000 euros on a prize pool of 250,000 euros, it rose to 19th place, regaining 49 places, on the way to Mallorca (rank of merit) which at the end of the year will be awarded the ‘card’ for the DP World Tour 2024 for the top 20 rankings. There are now four Azzurri players in the segment that count this ranking with the other three in the top ten: Manassero third, Scalise fifth and Pavan tenth.
