Modric and Lovren stand trial for perjury: they risk five years in prison

The accusation was brought by the Croatian Osijek court in the course of a trial against a Croatian football coach, who had already been sentenced to six and a half years.

Perjury: With this charge, the prosecutor of the Osijek Court in Croatia could indict Luka Modric and Dejan Lovren (under Olympique Lyonnais). The story goes back to 2017, when the players were cited as witnesses in an investigation against Zdravko Mamić, a Croatian football coach, at that time the general manager of Dinamo Zagreb and sentenced to six and a half years in prison. The accusation of the latter – later confirmed – was fraud and corruption against his club at the time. Then the investigation went ahead, and subsequent investigations would have allowed the judges to verify the infidelity of the statements made by the two players in court. Now, for them, a new trial at home is expected, but this time as defendants.
